Navy conducts Borneo War military exercise
KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) conducted a Borneo War 1/21 military exercise recently to test the agility and readiness of their military assets in preparation for military operations.
Eastern Fleet Commander, Admiral Datuk Sabri Zali said the military exercise was carried out in the South China Sea involving RMN assets, namely KD (Kapal Di-Raja) Kedah, KD Keris, KD Pari and KD Ganas, and EC725 Helicopter belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) from Labuan Air Base.
“The purpose of the Borneo War exercise is to enhance the competency of navy personnel, especially those stationed along the eastern fleet, in preparation for numerous exercises that they may or may not face in times of combat.
“Numerous evolutions were performed during the exercise such as navigation, cargo transfer, damage control and fire fighting exercises,” he said.
Also present at the training was Eastern Fleet Deputy Commander-in-Chief, First Admiral Sazalee Shoib.
Sabri said although with the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, the training exercise was still carried out but on a smaller scale with strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) practiced to maintain the momentum of RMN personnel and asset capabilities in the Eastern Fleet.
“Such exercises will ensure our military’s ‘combat readiness’ to be deployed anytime when called upon regardless of the situation to safeguard our beloved country,” he said, adding that all navy personnel involved were confirmed healthy and free of any symptoms before being allowed to participate in the Borneo War exercise.
