Social activist suggests giving local fruits, delicacies as CNY gifts

-

TAWAU: Social activist Datuk Lo Fui Ming has suggested the people present as gifts locally grown products or homemade fresh food such as tropical fruits, braised sliced pork belly (kou lou), millet-chicken (Bao Shu Ji) instead of imported mandarin oranges, snacks and beverages during the Chinese New Year celebration.

Lo said these locally grown products or homemade food are fresh and good for health while at the same time, to support the hard work of the local farmers in order to boost up the local economy and prosperity.

“It is learnt that the imported mandarin oranges will be plucked and packed at least three months earlier for exportation. The fruits may be not so fresh once they arrive in a country.

“Our local farmers also produce a large number of nutritious and fresh fruits, as well as the famous milletchicken, or even delicious braised sliced pork belly, which are more suitable for CNY gifts,” he asserted after receiving some local fruits and braised sliced pork belly (kou lou) from a supplier at his office here yesterday..

Lo also said he believe many people, Tiong Hua community in particular, will plant local fruits as well as make braised sliced pork belly, cookies and cakes at home in order to earn some side income before CNY.

On the other hand, he also urged all people could stay at home celebrating CNY, which is a new norm of celebration during this epidemic period and continuously to comply with the stated SOPs at all times.
