No death in S’wak for first time in 12 days but cases remain in triple digits

KUCHING: Sarawak did not record a Covid19 death yesterday for the first time since Jan 21, with the cumulative number of fatalities remaining at 39.

However the state continued to record triple-digit infections with 121 new cases reported, said Sarawak Disaster Management Commi ee (SDMC) in a statement.

Up until Feb 1, the state had recorded a total of 18 fatalities in 12 consecutiv­e days – one death was recorded on Jan 21 and on each day from Jan 27-Feb 1; two deaths each from

Jan 22-25; and three deaths on Jan 26.

SDMC also reported 148 new recoveries at Sibu Hospital (101), Bintulu Hospital (18), Sarawak General Hospital (15), Miri Hospital (10), and Sarikei Hospital (4).

This raised the cumulative number of patient discharges in Sarawak to 2,985 or 63.84 per cent of the overall cases.

The number of Covid-19 patients under treatment yesterday in hospitals as well as quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC) stood at 1,635, with 862 of them in Sibu

Hospital, 315 in Miri Hospital, 159 in Sarawak General Hospital, 132 in Bintulu Hospital, 138 in Kapit Hospital and Kapit PKRC, 24 in Sarikei Hospital, four in Limbang Hospital, and one in Sipitang PKRC in Sabah.

Yesterday’s 121 new cases were reported in Sibu (37), Miri (25), Kapit (21), Dalat (10), Bintulu (9), Bukit Mabong (4), Kuching (3), Song (3), Beluru (3), Serian (2), Sarikei (1), Kanowit (1), Julau (1) and Selangau (1), raising the cumulative number of infections in the state to 4,676.
