96 new cases in Pasai Cluster, 854 samples still pending results

KUCHING: The Pasai Cluster in Sibu saw an increase of 96 new infections yesterday, bringing its cumulative number of cases to 2,146, said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

The deputy chief minister said a total of 24,000 individual­s had been screened under this cluster, from which 21,000 had tested negative for Covid-19 and 854 samples are awaiting laboratory test results.

“The Jalan Pengiran Cluster in Matu has an increase of 12 new cases, bringing the total cumulative cases to 20.

“A total of 113 individual­s have been swab tested whereby 91 were tested negative and two are awaiting laboratory test results,” he told a press conference when delivering the state’s Covid-19 daily update.

He also said the Rakut Cluster in Miri and Tabong Cluster in Bau also recorded new cases yesterday at six and four, respective­ly.

The Rakut Cluster now has a cumulative total of 150 cases and has seen a total of 550 persons being screened. Of the 550, 380 had tested negative and 20 are awaiting their lab test results, he added.

For the Tabong Cluster, its cumulative number of cases is 29, with 151 of the 180 individual­s screened testing negative for the virus.

The other active clusters in Sarawak, namely Bintang Daily Cluster in Meradong, Indah Riang Cluster in Kuching, Bedayan Cluster in Serian, Bukit Sekubong Cluster in Sebauh, Jelita Cluster in Miri, Keranji Tabuan Cluster in Kuching, Bah Sayap Cluster in Miri and Stutong Cluster in Kuching, all did not record any new infection yesterday.

Meanwhile, Uggah said 18 compounds were issued by police yesterday to individual­s caught flouting the standard operating procedures.

The compounds were issued in Kuching (5), Padawan (3), Sibu (3), Samarahan (2), Miri (2), Kapit (2) and Mukah (1).
