Malaysia Smelting Corp offers vitamins, Covid-19 testing to staff in Port Klang

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Smelting Corporation Bhd (MSC), one of the world’s largest suppliers of tin metal, has stepped up safety efforts at its new smelting facility in Pulau Indah, Port Klang, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Group chief executive officer Datuk Dr Patrick Yong said the company had supplied the smelting facility’s employees with health supplements, such as Vitamin C and Vitamin D3 as it was known for having immunity strengthening properties.

“We highly encourage our employees to consume these vitamins on a daily basis to maintain sufficient nutrition and lower the risk of infection.

“We also negotiated with MSC’s panel of clinics to undertake Covid-19 testing for our employees, with accurate results made available within the same day of testing,” he said in a statement.

The company, which is listed both in Malaysia and Sinngapore, said all employees were required to undergo temperature checking before entering the premise so it could quickly detect employees with elevated temperatures who would then be sent to its panel of clinics for the swab test.

The tin metal producer also provides separate housing arrangements for its essential workers at one of its premises, in compliance with social distancing requirements to lower the Covid-19 exposure among workers.

MSC said it sanitised its workplace three times a day, made available hand sanitisers at all basin points, and provided free masks and face shields for employees who were required to work in close proximity.
