JPKK must know all villagers – DCM

-

RANAU: All appointed Village Development and Security Committee (JPPK) members must take the initiative to know the constituents under their supervision so that it will be easier for the government to assist the people.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam said all appointed JPKK members are the key players in their respective areas and therefore they have to know all the residents in their area.

“The JPKK must know all their villagers in the respective areas. This is needed for the data reference for the district office,” said the Kundasang assemblyman in his speech during the handing-over ceremony of JPKK appointment letters on Saturday.

A total of eight appointees received their appointment letters during the ceremony, which was also attended by Joachim's political secretary Yubidi Gumpoyo and Community Development Leader (PPM) Dounis Sani.

Joachim added that the JPKK members must know the number of villagers and the boundaries of their respective areas.

He opined that they should work together with the village chiefs on mattes such as the entry of illegal immigrants, crime, drug abuse and such – so that further actions could be taken.

The State Industrial Development Minister also said that the JPKK members have a role to play in welfare and basic infrastructure in their respective areas.

“If there were issues that went viral but were not brought up by the JPKK members, that would mean that they were unaware of the problems faced by their village and therefore they are unfit to be a JPKK member,” said Joachim.

He said JPKK should also utilise technology such as the use of Whatsapp as a form of communication – especially during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
