KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK), whose mission is to preserve and promote Chinese cultures, has expressed its gratitude to the state government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor for continuing the Sabah Government's tradition of contributing lion heads to Chinese associations in Sabah.

USCCAKK president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said this after receiving the lion heads from Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr Roland Chia here on Friday.

She said the government has barred lion dance activities this Chinese New Year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, she said, the state government's decision to give away lion heads to Chinese associations despite the ban on cultural activities showed that the administration helmed by Hajiji respected Chinese cultures and supported the community in promoting their traditions in Sabah.

Susan said the state government was the only one in Malaysia to distribute lion heads to the Chinese community prior to the Lunar New Year celebrations.

"To the Chinese community, the contribution is a sign of recognition and support towards our effort to promote our cultures," she said.

She also thanked Chia and Lo Su Fui, Special Officer for Sabah Chinese Affairs to the Chief Minister, for pursuing the interests of the Chinese community.

On another note, Susan took the opportunity to wish the Chinese community a happy Chinese New Year, good health and prosperity in the Year of the Ox. Chia, representing the Chief Minister, together with Lo, had distributed 15 lion heads to the member associations under USCCAKK on Friday.
