KOTA KINABALU: A 30-yearold man was arrested with RM280,088 worth of assorted drugs.

Kota Kinabalu police chief, ACP Habibi Majinji said the man was suspected to be a middleman of a drug syndicate operating in Kota Kinabalu, and the arrest put a dent in the drug operation.

“Based on police intelligence and surveillance, we believe the arrest of the suspect would disrupt the operation of the syndicate.

“The suspect was arrested on February 5 around 4.50pm at the Kepayan Ridge flat near Jalan Hospital Queen Elizabeth. He was tailed by police and stopped as he approached his vehicle.

“In the vehicle, police found 3,558 grams of syabu, 1,000 grams of ketamine, 109 packets of juice powder, 746 ecstasy pills, 337 grams of ecstasy powder, 240 Erimin 5 pills and 40 sticks of drugs known as ‘mushroom’,” said Habibi.

He further said that the assorted drugs could supply an estimated 29,629 clients and they were mostly recreational drugs sold at entertainment outlets. Police also believed the drugs came from Sarawak, by road. The suspect was previously convicted under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and his urine sample tested positive for ketamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty. The suspect also faces a charge under Section 39A (2) and Section 15 (1) (a) of the same Act, for possessing and consuming drugs, respectively.

In Shah Alam, police have crippled a drug smuggling and distribution syndicate after detaining two local and two foreign men in three raids in the Klang Valley on Wednesday (Feb 3).

Selangor acting police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said they also seized various drugs worth RM900,750 and two cars during the raids, which were conducted in Puchong Jaya, Kuchai Lama and Cheras beginning from 4 pm.

“We detained a local man and two foreigners in the first raid at a parking lot in Puchong.

“We found 13 Chinese tea packets containing a drug believed to be syabu weighing 13.39 kilogrammes (kg) worth RM602,550 and 13,900 ecstasy pills in 13 plastic packets valued at RM250,200.

“Further investigations led to the second raid on a house in Kuchai Lama. A local man was detained with 10 packets of heroin weighing 4.4 kg worth RM48,000,” he said at a press conference held online yesterday.

However, no seizures or arrests were made in the raid on a house in Cheras.

Arjunaidi said the drugs were sourced from a neighbouring country and that, although the two locals dealt with the same supplier, they did not know one another.

He said further investigations found that the syndicate had been actively selling drugs in the Klang Valley since November, adding that the two local suspects, who had several drugrelated offences, also tested positive for syabu.

“All the suspects, aged 44 to 60, have been remanded until Wednesday and investigation is being conducted under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
