Artec AS win PUBG Mobile Borneo Challenge

KOTA KINABALU: Team Artec MS of Keningau emerged as winners in the PUBG Mobile Borneo Challenge 2021 that ended here Sunday.

Comprising Kalvin Chong Jing Kai, Klinsmann Chin Yun Vui, Mohd Khairul Boy and Md Shazrie Md Guntor, the team showed great gaming skills to lift the title after edging the challenges of 23 teams in the final.

Eighty teams started the three-day online tournament last Friday.

In second place was Destroyer Esport of Kota Belud consisting of Douglas Dwayne Aldryne, Layjory Utam, Alvin Billy Oliver and Maxwell Francis.

Another Kota Belud team namely Angkol NB (Muhd Firdus Arsad, Mohd Danyel Farhan Affandee, Muhd Rasydan Mat Sain, Muhd Abd Rahman Sofian) settled for third placing.

Team Zypgo of Keningau (Fathur Rahman, Mohd Fhazlie Roslan, Mohd Fazren Roslan, Samri Raydun) and Team NBP Elite of Kota Kinabalu (Owell Aerlleric Anthony, Erick Edward Dius, Henrynus Maital, Kenny Maital, Jemsen Julius John) competed the top five teams in the tournament.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin presented the prizes to the representa­tives of the winning teams before officially closing the tournament at the Gen Y Centre here.

“The ministry will continue to organise more of such tournament and frequently as one of the initatives to develop E-sport despite we are still in the midst of fighting the Covid19 pandemic,” he said.

For the record, the online tournament comprised three phases namely the preliminar­y contests, semifinals and final.

Prize money totalling RM3,000 was up for grab where the winners will receive RM1,000 and trophy followed by the second to fifth placing receiving RM800, RM600, RM400 and RM200 respective­ly.
