KUALA LUMPUR: China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL) is awarding the Award of Excellence for Year 2020 to 31 of its local and Bumiputera project partners for their outstanding performance, resilience and dedication.

CCC-ECRL is the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contractor for the ECRL project in Malaysia.

Managing director Bai Yinzhan said the award would be given for their remarkable performance in areas including health, safety and environment (HSE) management, quality management, progress management as well as resource allocation.

“The year 2020 has presented us with many challenges and without their relentless efforts, the project would not have remained on track,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said currently, there are 1,241 local and Bumiputera vendors participating in the ECRL project, including 415 subcontractors, 746 suppliers and 80 consultancies.

“We are also thankful that these local and Bumiputera project partners have thoughtfully managed the strict enforcement of the applicable standard operating procedures to keep our workplace safe,” he said.

On Bumiputera partnership, Bai said CCC-ECRL collaborated with the federal and state government in providing a platform to encourage the participation of local and Bumiputera contractors in the ECRL project.

He said the company has been actively ensuring qualified local and Bumiputera contractors, suppliers and consultants participated in at least 40 per cent of the civil works, excluding tunnelling works, on the ECRL project.

“CCC-ECRL has also accorded special attention on the appointment of local and Bumiputera small contractors from the Grade G1-G3 categories, who will directly benefit with the overall construction industry in the country as well,” he added.

As of January 2021, ECRL project has achieved a 20.37 per cent completion progress rate ahead of the originally scheduled 19.39 per cent attributed to the advanced progress of 9.47 per cent for Section B from Dungun to Mentakab, from the initial target of 5.83 per cent, and physical work progress that was 0.62 per cent ahead of schedule for Section A from Kota Baru to Dungun.
