Sofie Imam new physical coach

Sabah Football Club (Sabah FC) has announced the appointmen­t of Sofie Imam Faizal as the squad physical coach. He holds the AFC B License and AFC Fitness Level I qualificat­ions.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Football Club (Sabah FC) has announced the appointmen­t of Sofie Imam Faizal as the squad physical coach.

The Indonesian trainer, who holds the AFC B License and AFC Fitness Level I qualificat­ions, is no stranger in the state football scene as it will be his second season with the Rhinos.

Sofie joined the state senior squad with head coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto for the Covid-19 disrupted 2020 campaign but their contracts were not extended at the end of the season.

However, Kurniawan has since been appointed as head coach and Sofie will again be part of his coaching staff for the 2021 campaign.

“Congratula­tions to Sofie Imam Faizal on his appointmen­t as Sabah FC 2021 physical coach,” Sabah FC announced on its official Facebook page yesterday.

The 33-year-old trainer from Tuluangung in East Java, Indonesia has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science from the University of Malang.

He proved his quality after being entrusted with guiding the Indonesian Under-19 national team a year before he moved to Sabah in 2020.

Sofie, or often called SIF, is also the trainer of the Indonesian B-16 women’s national team back in 2018.

In the same year, Sofie also coached Persiba Balikpapan in the Indonesian League 1 competitio­n.

Prior to that, Sofie has trained Perserang Serang, Perssu Super Madura and Persepam Pamekasan teams between 2015-2017.

Meanwhile, Dr. Loriot Kenson, 41, from Penampang has been appointed the medical doctor for Sabah FC.

Loriot, who has a Degree in Medicine & Surgery from the University of Malaya (UM), started his career as a medical doctor in 2005 and has experience in nutrition, anti-aging, regenerati­ve (stem cell therapy) and functional medicine.

“He has experience and has been using Blood Plasma Therapy or Platelet Rich Plasma

(PRP) for sports injuries since 2014 and has treated athletes and marathon runners using this method.

“Congratula­tions to Dr. Loriot Kenson on the appointmen­t,” read the statement released by Sabah FC yesterday.

For the record, the new Malaysian League season is expected to kick off in early March.
