KOTA KINABALU: Api Api Ass em blywo ma nD atuk Christina Liew has expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for his announcement that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government will give each Opposition elected representative a special allocation of RM100,000 to help the people in their respective constituencies impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an interview with TV1 on Wednesday, the former Deputy Chief Minister said, “I wish to thank the Chief Minister for his consideration and openmindedness in this respect. Although RM100,000 may not be a lot for us to carry out our work in our constituencies, I believe the Chief Minister will consider topping up the sum once we have exhausted the funds in serving our constituents.”

Liew, who is Sabah PKR Chief, also reiterated her call to Hajiji to provide each Opposition assembly member with the same development funds as their government counterparts, as what the Perak and Johor state governments have done.

This move, she said, will enable the elected representatives to assist the government in the socio-economic development of the individual constituencies.

“I trust that the Chief Minister will consider my suggestion, and I wish him a very Happy Chinese New Year,” she added.

Liew had urged the State Government to emulate Johor and Perak in giving Opposition legislators the same development allocation and other funding as their government counterparts, when debating on the State Budget 2021 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting in December last year.
