Tawau parking lots restored
TAWAU: The restoration of parking lots at Dunlop Road was well received by road users and business operators along the road after the parking space was taken away to ease traffic congestion last year.
Sabah Assitant Minister of Finance, Datuk Nizam ABu Bakar Titingan when visiting the road yesterday said the dismantling of the iron barriers at Dunlop Road and the work is almost complete and the parking spaces have been reorganized.
“We hope that this decision will provide comfort especially to the traders here and also the public who want to park their cars when they go to the fish market or Tawau Tanjong Market, then it will no longer be a problem for them to get a place to park their car,” he said.
Nizam said what matters is that the decision made by the state government is for the good of the public and the interests of the community.
“Since the issue of this road being closed for parking cropped up, the government has received complaints and appeals from interested parties, especially the traders here and also the road users so that this matter can be reconsidered,” he said.
“This includes Tawau Municipal Council which has written a letter to the government to consider this matter and after the chief minister received a briefing from the director of Sabah Public Works Department and also views from community leaders in Tawau such as Balung assemblyman, Tanjong Batu assemblyman and myself, then the chief minister decided to restore the Dunlop Road parking lots so that road users can park their cars along Dunlop Road in a more organized and orderly manner for the benefit of all,” he said.
Meanwhile business operator, Lo Park Hin representing the business community at Dunlop Road expressed their appreciation to restore the road as before because it has affected their business.
The restoration and reorganizing of the parking lots will result in 50 parking lots compared to 62 before.
