Three civil servants charged with corruption

KOTA KINABALU: An assistant informatio­n technology officer of the National Institute of Public Administra­tion (INTAN) Sabah campus claimed trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday to 11 counts of corruptly using his position as an applicant for local work orders under his relative’s company.

Mohd Hizan Laliman, 40, who appeared before judge Abu Bakar Manat, was charged under Section 23 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24 of the same Act.

On the first to the 11th counts, the accused had allegedly being the applicant for local order forms for several works namely supplying ICT tools, food catering, servicing printing machines and servicing power supply server batteries at INTAN between February 13, 2013 and September 28, 2015.

The charges also stated that due to that the company allegedly received claim payments of RM390, RM2,400, RM1,609, RM2,260, RM2,900, RM9,000, RM3,950, RM2,430, RM2,375, RM4,449.20 and RM4,654 respective­ly.

The court fixed March 31 to re-mention the case and the accused was released on a bail of RM50,000 for all the charges deposited with RM7,000 with one local surety.

Mohd Hizan was also ordered to surrender his passport if any and to report at the MACC office, pending disposal of the case.

MACC prosecutin­g officer Rekhraj Singh prosecuted while the accused was represente­d by counsel Mohd Ari Nadzrah Abd Rahman.

Meanwhile, two assistant officers of the National AntiDrugs Agency (AADK) pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to separate charges of making claims with false contents.

Erwan Roslan, 40, and Panduan Paglin, 39, who appeared before judge Abu Bakar Manat were charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, punishable under Section 24 (2) of the same Act.

The two accused persons faced six charges of submitting their Kenyataan Tuntutan Elaun Perjalanan Dalam Negeri for several months in 2017 which contained false informatio­n that both of them had allegedly stayed at hotels as allegedly stated in their claims.

They were accused of committing the offences at the AADK office between February 28, 2017 and October 2, 2017.

The court set April 7 to remention their cases and they were granted RM10,000 bail each for all their charges deposited with RM5,000 with one local surety.

Erwan and Panduan, who are defended by counsel Jamadi Saleh, were ordered to hand over their passports to the court and to report themselves at the MACC office pending disposal of the case.
