Despite illness, girl determined to complete SPM exam

BESUT: There are no words that can describe the sadness when seeing your daughter who was previously active and enthusiastic finally had to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in a wheelchair.

Mohd Syamsu Izani Yaacob, 41, said his daughter Saniha started suffering from a neurological disorder in December last year, yet despite various constraints, Saniha still wanted to take the SPM examination which started yesterday.

He said although he could not tell what was in Saniha's mind, he was confident that his daughter's incredible mental strength would be able to answer questions as best she could.

“My eldest child cannot walk properly or stand for too long after receiving treatment at a hospital in Kuala Terengganu late last year. The situation occurred after the hospital took a sample of spinal fluid to identify the problem of headaches and frequent fainting that Saniha had been experiencing since February last year.

"Before that, the hospital had asked for my permission and the doctor had told me that the procedure would have side effects for a certain period of time. Saniha is also currently suffering from neck pain," he said when met by Bernama after sending his daughter to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Bukit Puteri, here yesterday morning.

Mohd Syamsu Izani who drives a bulldozer for a living said he had to ask permission from the school to bring his own child to the examination hall as a sign of support for the Bahasa Melayu 1 question paper, this morning followed Bahasa Melayu 2, in the afternoon.
