KUALA LUMPUR: Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd’s (Digi) postpaid subscriber base hit three million in 2020, encouraging the group to upgrade its users within its current base to the new 2021 plans.

During a virtual media briefing on Monday, Digi’s chief marketing officer Praveen Rajan revealed that the group closed 2020 with three million postpaid subscribers.

“From a growth perspective, we don’t usually set a target number but if you look at our trajectory so far, we’ve been able to grow the postpaid business to about three million users now and we are looking to get more customers,” Rajan said in a virtual question and answer session with the media.

“Ultimately, we are also looking to upgrade as many customers within our current base. As long as they are interested, we’d like to convert as many of our existing customers to these new (2021) plans.”

Digi announced on Tuesday its upgraded Digi Postpaid portfolio to support more Malaysians as they bounce back to recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new portfolio continues to deliver more simplicity and great value, especially during these uncertain times.

The new Digi Postpaid now comes with simpler Internet plans that removes complicated quota partitions, while maintaining high-speed Internet with no speed caps, allowing customers to use the Internet any time they want.

Customers who are looking to connect their entire family now have the option to sign up to six additional family lines at a 50 per cent discount for each line, starting from as low as RM20 per month.

The new portfolio provides customers the flexibility to choose free add-ons to meet individual needs such as rebates on Google Play and Apple App Store, extra Internet quota, and mobile broadband.

As the new plans come with no speed caps, Rajan responded to a query on the consistency users can expect from Digi that the group does not claim to be fastest on theoretical speeds.

“We all know the limitations of the mobile network. But generally, from our network planning point of view, today we try to plan based on having consistent speeds of at least five megabits per second across as many customers as possible.”

With more of our life activities carried out online due to Covid19, Rajan said that this upgraded Digi Postpaid proposition comes at a relevant time.

The arrival of vaccines in Malaysia is a sign of hope that the country can now focus on gradually opening up its domestic economy and recovering from the pandemic fall out.

Digi is more than ready to be a reliable connectivity partner for all Malaysians – individuals, communities and businesses, reconnecting them with their family, friends and even business customers.

“Since we first started our postpaid service more than a decade ago, we have not stopped asking ourselves how and what can we do to help our customers stay connected to what matters most.

“With three million Malaysians already using Digi Postpaid, we are continuously curating feedback to enhance our services, and this new portfolio is a testament of what Digi has been known for throughout these years, which is to continuously bring simplicity and greater value to our customers.”

He added that this new postpaid portfolio will also support Digi’s efforts to connect more Malaysian households to fibre broadband, as the offerings provide additional savings when a customer combines Digi Postpaid and Digi Fibre under one account.
