Sg Serai estate placed under two-week lockdown

MIRI: The Sungai Serai estate in Niah Sawai Land District was yesterday placed under lockdown after eight positive Covid-19 cases were detected in the area.

Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC) minister-in-charge Datuk Lee Kim Shin in a statement said the lockdown would be in effect for two weeks until March 10.

“MDDMC now has three areas under total lockdown including this estate. The other two are Rumah Pengabang and Rumah Matthew Tiri, both in Beluru District,” he said.

The state Transport Minister also announced that lockdowns imposed on 11 other longhouses have ended.

The longhouses are Rumah Emah, Rumah Apoi, Rumah Anthony, Rumah Chabu, Rumah Justine, Rumah Nelson, Rumah Lawang, and Rumah Banyan in Beluru; Rumah Clarence and Rumah Sabang in Subis; and Long Jeeh in Telang Usan.

On another note, Lee remind those celebratin­g Chap Goh Meh tomorrow to comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) which has been laid out by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.

He also stressed the importance of strong cooperatio­n between the frontliner­s and the community to ensure that Miri will resume to green status again.

“The frontliner­s will continue to do their job, but what is more important is that the cooperatio­n between the two parties in overcoming the pandemic.

“Please continue to comply with the SOP and avoid going into crowded places or confined space, and always maintain good physical distancing,” he said.
