CM: State govt to help strengthen security
LAHAD DATU: The state government will provide the best possible assistance to help security forces in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) to further strengthen the security.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor said efforts to further strengthen the security in ESSZone needs cooperation from all parties, including the people.
Hajiji said people are expected to provide full cooperation to the security forces so that the task of safeguarding the security in these areas can be carried out better and orderly.
“Today (Sunday), I visit the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) and was briefed on the current situation of ESSZone to review the security development in ESSZone.
“I see that the situation is good and under control. It is hoped that with the security control that is carried out in ESSZone, it will provide security especially on the cross border crimes including illegal immigrants,” he said.
Hajiji said this during a press conference at the ESSCom headquarters following his visit to Lahad Datu yesterday. He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and State Secretary Datuk Safar Untong.
When asked whether there is any need for improvement in ESSCom, Hajini revealed that he had received some information on the needs to empower the security forces in ESSZone.
“We will take this matter to the federal for appropriate consideration while we at state government will help as best as possible as security is very important issue,” he added.
During his visit to Lahad Datu, Hajiji also visited the Malaysian Armed Forces and General Operation Forces security post in Tanjung Labian and scheduled to continue his visit to Tawau.
Hajiji also witnessed the handover of contribution of 10,000 packs of bread from Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad to security forces which was led by its Executive Director, Dexter Lau, at the ESSCom headquarters.
