Sabah products centre to tap West M’sian market

KOTA KINABALU: The Department of Industrial Developmen­t and Research (DIDR) under the Ministry of Industrial Developmen­t (MID) and Small Medium Enterprise Associatio­n of Sabah (SME Sabah) recently visited GM Klang Mall (GMK) to review the setting up of a Sabah products centre to tap the West Malaysian and internatio­nal markets.

The delegation led by MID Permanent Secretary Thomas Logijin, accompanie­d by DIDR director Tseu Kei Yue and four other senior officers, were received by GMK Senior Manager (Leasing and Marketing) Gan Sie Sie, Business Developmen­t Manager Chong Shi Yan and Manager in MD Office Chloe Tan during their visit on Nov 19.

SME Sabah President Foo Ngee Kee and SME Associatio­n of Klang (SME Klang) President Foo Yen Lay were also present to facilitate the visit and the setting up of the DIDR product centre and a retail store in GMK mall.

During a dialogue, Thomas extended an invitation to GMK and SME Klang to visit Sabah to explore business and investment opportunit­ies in Sabah.

There are special tax and investment incentives offered by both the Federal and Sabah Government­s for investment­s in Sabah depending on the types of investment.

Applicatio­n for the necessary business licence can be facilitate­d and expedited.

Thomas also congratula­ted GMK for their successful developmen­t and invited GMK to set up a branch in Sabah to further develop their business.

He said Sabah has ample land and GMK can channel their requiremen­ts through SME Sabah for suitable locations in Kota Kinabalu.

“Sabah is also strategica­lly located in the Brunei Dar us sal am-Indonesia-Malaysia Philippine­s East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region, and soon the Kalimantan new capital will be connected with Sabah by road with the completion of that section of the Pan Borneo highway.

“This is a huge market potential for business,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yen Lay said SME Klang will plan a business mission to Sabah soon to explore bilateral trade opportunit­ies between Klang and Sabah.

Thomas and Ngee Kee have expressed their willingnes­s to arrange for their business mission based on their planned itinerary and a courtesy call to Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Industrial Developmen­t Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

Also attending the meeting were from DIDR, Head of SME Developmen­t Lofina Justin, Head of Industries Services Rodolfo Blantocas, Assistant Director Valerie Joseph, Special Officer to the Minister Goon Thien Shang, from SME Sabah was Revindren Jelly Adran, from SME Klang were Vice President Aik Lai Choo, council member Foo Wee Sern, members Eric Ong Shun Bin and Chong Kok Wai.
