UMS holds Research and Innovation Policy Review Workshop

KOTA KINABALU: The Research Management Center (PPP) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) held a two-day Research and Innovation Policy Review Workshop here recently, to revise existing policies at UMS.

It is also to collect and standardis­e all documents and guidelines to avoid confusion and help researcher­s get clearer reference sources.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the Vice Chancellor of UMS, Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor.

Speaking at the programme, Dr Kasim said that the workshop was very timely to encourage researcher­s to be more active in obtaining funds and forging cooperativ­e relationsh­ips with the industry.

“As a leading knowledge building in Sabah, UMS researcher­s need to act as reference experts in various fields of expertise.

“This is what UMS wants, which is that knowledge and expertise should be shared, disseminat­ed towards contributi­ng to the developmen­t of society and the beloved state of Sabah,” he said.

The workshop, which was held for the first time, was attended by 75 participan­ts consisting of faculty deans, directors, deputy deans of research and innovation, the Legal Adviser’s Office and representa­tives of the UMS Treasurer’s Department.

Also present were UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Prof Ir Dr Rosalam Sarbatly and UMS PPP Director Prof Dr Jumat Sulaiman.
