Four new Catholic parishes in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: Four new Territorial Parishes Without A Resident Parish Priest have been established by the Catholic Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu.
The new parishes are the St Augustine Parish, Kinarut; the St Thomas Parish, Kepayan; the Good Shepherd Parish, Menggatal; and the Church of Mary Immaculate Parish, Bukit Padang (CMI).
This was revealed by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu, Rev Fr Wilfred Atin in a notice issued by the Chancery dated Feb 2.
“Mindful of the vision and mission of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu and having consulted the College of Consultors, His Grace Archbishop Datuk John Wong had announced on January 18 at Tatl, Keningau during Kota Kinabalu Clergy Meeting, the establishment of four new territorial parishes without a resident parish priest,” Fr Wilfred said.
He added that the parishes are established under the aegis of Canon Law 515 SS 1-3, 518 and 526 S1 without reservation, and will be governed by all other canons relating to parishes, as well as the particular legislation of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu.
“The pastoral care of these newly established parishes without a resident priest will be the pastorate of the following parishes: Rev Fr Wilfred Atin (St Augustine Parish, Kinarut), Rev Fr Amrose Atang (St Thomas Parish, Kepayan), Rev Fr David Sham (Good Shepherd Parish, Menggatal), and Rev Fr Paul Lo (Church of Mary Immaculate Parish, Bukit Padang),” he stated.
He added that the establishment of the new parishes is effective Feb 2 and to be communicated in all parishes of Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese at all Masses of Obligation this weekend.
