Restaurant in Sabah offers RM5 meal
KOTA KINABALU: Although the ‘Menu Rahmah’ initiative has yet to be expanded to Sabah, Pak Mus Restaurant here is offering the affordable balanced meal, starting Friday.
Musli Oli, 63, the owner of the restaurant, located at Tanjung Aru Plaza, here, decided to offer the ‘Menu Rahmah’ from 10.30am to 2.30pm daily.
“Insya-Allah, Pak Mus Restaurant will offer the ‘Menu Rahmah’ daily to customers who come here,” he told Bernama here on Friday.
‘Menu Rahmah’ initiative, mooted by the federal government, comprises a balanced meal that includes rice, a choice of protein, either chicken or fish, and vegetables, which is being offered to those affected by the current increase in the cost of living.
Musli said that the nutritious and balanced menu, offered to customers at the price of RM5, consists of rice, a choice of chicken or fish, vegetables and syrup. He said his initiative was in response to the government’s call to help reduce the cost of living for the people, especially in the state.
On Thursday, Parti Warisan (Warisan) vice-president, Datuk Junz Wong, praised the Menu Rahmah initiative mooted by the federal government, and urged the Sabah government, led by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), to implement it in the state.
On Tuesday (Jan 31), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) launched the Menu Rahmah, which offers a lunch or dinner meal priced at RM5 per plate, at 15,000 participating food premises nationwide.
Meanwhile, customer, Ramli Halim, 50, who is self-employed, said the initiative to offer Menu Rahmah not only helps the target groups but also all levels of society. He said that the average expenditure for a meal per day is estimated to be up to RM50 per person, and that amount is quite large for those who have a large family.
“The Menu Rahmah is really good because it not only helps the poor but all the workers, because even ordering online is expensive. We want a cheap price and this menu is economical,” said Ramli, a Kota Kinabalu native.
Civil servant, Santy Ahmad, 42, expressed hope that other restaurants in every district in the state will also offer the Menu Rahmah, so that the government’s efforts can be enjoyed by everyone from all walks of life.
She said that the initiative to some extent was able to ease the burden of rural communities, and for them to enjoy the government’s effort to help those in need. — Bernama
