Expand ‘Menu Rahmah’ programme in Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan call

-

KOTA KINABALU: The ‘Menu Rahmah’ programme introduced by the federal government should be expanded in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan so that the people in the three regions of Borneo can also enjoy the initiative.

Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah welcomed the programme and hoped that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) could create engagement to implement the program in the three regions.

He said the programme is very beneficial especially if it is carried out in the food premises of universities or public education institutions.

“At least it can ease the burden of B40 students who only depend entirely on their parents’ expenses,” he said in a statement on Friday.

The government has announced the introduction of the ‘Menu Rahmah’, which is a meal priced as low as RM5 to reduce the burden of lowincome groups.

KPDN minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Indian Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association and the Malaysian Tomyam Entrepreneurs Association next week.

“We see that the initiative is really good and can attract customers to food premises that may save daily expenses. The food price offer is quite reasonable and can help the target group who are affected by the current high cost of living,” he said.

According to Masiung, it is unfair if the programme is only introduced in Peninsular Malaysia, and the people in the Borneo region also need to be included so that there is an equal initiative.

However, KPDN is reminded to monitor from time to time so that traders do not take advantage of manipulating the ‘Menu Rahmah’.

The menu includes rice, chicken or fish and vegetables offered for lunch and dinner.

We see that the initiative is really good and can attract customers to food premises that may save daily expenses. The food price offer is quite reasonable and can help the target group who are affected by the current high cost of living. Datuk Masiung Banah
