KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin and Sabah Assistant Finance Minister Tan Lee Fatt recently led a delegation from DAP Sabah to pay a courtesy call on the new Kota Kinabalu City Hall Mayor, Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah.

The objective of the courtesy call was for the elected representatives and Sabah DAP leaders to foster and strengthen the close cooperation with City Hall, especially in efforts to safeguard the welfare and sustainability of the community in Kota Kinabalu in general.

Several issues and suggestions were brought to the attention of the Mayor, including approaches on how the Kota Kinabalu Parliament team can work together with City Hall for the wellbeing of the rakyat.

Chan said the Mayor’s suggestion to review the parking fee system in the state capital from a coupon to digital one was well received seeing that the current system is about 10 years old.

“The current parking fee system has been in use since 2014 thus the need for it to be upgraded and modernized so as to provide ease as well as comfort to the residents and visitors to the state capital.

“We hope that the proposed digital system will be integrated with the digital ebanking and e-wallet payment applications such as Touch ‘n Go, Sabah Pay and Grab that are now widely used,” Chan added.

He also expressed confidence in the Mayor’s intention and aspiration to make Kota Kinabalu a more consumer friendly, efficient, green and smart city.

During the courtesy call, other issues such as the need to increase the effectiveness of the application process, rakyat’s complaints about the rubbish collection schedule, insufficient rubbish bins and permits to operate at the night markets.

“We also proposed that DBKK support and recognise SPCA’s efforts in carrying out dog neutering programs in efforts to reduce the number of stray dogs in the state capital,” Chan added.
