Underwater clean-up off KK coast collects 50kg of trash
KOTA KINABALU: In a remarkable display of community service and environmental stewardship, the Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera lead by President Roger Yapp recently teamed up with several organizations to conduct an underwater clean-up project.
This innovative initiative, co-organised with the Marine Research Foundation, Kota Kinabalu City Hall, Sabah Park, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Technology and Management, and Trash Hero, saw a diverse group of experts coming together to make a significant impact.
The project’s focal point was Padong Point, a pristine underwater ecosystem off the coast of Kota Kinabalu. The team’s dedication and creativity shone through as they embarked on their mission to clean up this underwater paradise.
In just a short period of time, about 50 kilograms of trash were carefully collected from the depths beneath Padong Point. This trash included plastic waste, discarded fishing gear, and other debris that posed a threat to marine life and the fragile underwater ecosystem.
The Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera’s commitment to community service, combined with their innovative approach, is a testament to their leadership in environmental conservation. By partnering with like-minded organisations and thinking outside the box, they have not only addressed a critical issue but have also set an example for others to follow.
This remarkable underwater clean-up project is a reminder that with dedication and creative collaboration, we can protect and preserve our natural treasures for future generations to enjoy.
The Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera continues to lead the way in making a positive impact on our environment and community. More information available in the Rotary Club of Kinabalu Facebook group.
