Youth and Sports Ministry tenpin bowling team overall champions
KOTA KINABALU: The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBSS) tenpin bowling team emerged as overall champions in the 29th Inter Departments Open League that ended at the KK Galaxy Bowl, Centre Point Sabah recently.
Led by Azril Fakhree Khainih, the KBSS team registered 51,052 total pin-falls accumulated over 30 weeks of competition to finish top of tge standing.
The other members of the winning team are Mohd Noer Said, Mohd Isam Kaim, Hazmi Merdan, Husni Al-Fakhari Usin and Antasha Aimuni Abdullah.
The Chief Minister’s Department (JKM Plus) settled for second placing with 50,794 pin-falls followed by Sabah State Education Department (JPN
Sabah) with 49,720 pin-falls.
KBSS also celebrated winning the Individual Master through Azril.
The KBSS team captain downed 1.481 pins to edge JKM Plus’ Jamnun Sapin and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) bowler Pungut Ibrahim to the title.
Jamnun settled for the runnerup spot despite sharing 1,395 pinfalls with eventual third place winner Pungut Ibrahim.
Azril, in a statement to the press yesterday, expressed gratitude to KBSS assistant minister Datuk Fairuz Renddan, permanent secretary Datuk Mansur Asun and Sabah Sports Council (MSN Sabah) director Mohd Asneh Mohd Noor for their advises, support and encouragement, which he said was vital in their title-winning campaign.
“I also wish to thank the KBSS bowlers for their efforts and commitment that pave the way to the team success,” he said.
Mansur, on the other hand, said the victory would certainly give KBSS much confidence as they prepare for future competitions including the state and national level inter-department tournaments in the future.
For the record, the recent tournament organised by KK Galaxy Bowl saw 16 teams from various state and federal government agencies taking part.
KK Galaxy Bowl supervisor Iskandar Zulkernain was among those present at the prize presentation ceremony.
