CNY ang pao, hampers distribution to needy, elderly on Jan 28
KOTA KINABALU: Everise Ventures Sdn Bhd (EVSB), the management company for Sandakan Turf Club (STC) will be conducting a charity event for the needy elderly individuals, on January 28 in conjunction with the Year of the Dragon Chinese New Year celebration.
It aims to extend warmth and care to needy elderly individuals of all races ahead of the Lunar New Year celebration.
This year’s charity event will be held at the Putera Theatre Ballroom in Bukit Padang, at 10.30am, with a luncheon provided for all the eligible elderly persons.
They will also be receiving a gift hamper and Ang Pao each, which will be distributed by senior officials of EVSB.
“Although currently the economy is still not so encouraging, we nonetheless think that we could do our best within our reach, to care for the needy and underprivileged groups in our community,” the spokesperson of EVSB in a statement on Tuesday.
The spokesperson urged needy elderly individuals aged 65 and above, regardless of ethnicity, who wish to participate in the event to register at the company’s headquarters located at Wisma STC, No. 12, Lorong Tenggiling 4, Jalan Maktab Gaya, Luyang, here. Registration starts on January 26 at 7am, and it is on a first-come, first-served basis until the allocated quota is full. The participants are also reminded to bring their Mykad for age verification purposes.
The spokesperson emphasized that while this annual charity event is open to elderly individuals of all races, she hoped that those with better financial status could make way for those in greater need.
She also encouraged elderly individuals in need to actively participate in this charity event, to experience an early and joyful celebration of the Chinese New Year.
The spokesperson added that, as in its tradition, EVSB senior officials including its chairman, Datuk Yap Pak Leong and its president, Tan Sri T. C. Goh will be joining STC agents and staff at the occasion, to distribute Ang Pao and gift hampers to the elderly participants.
Well known for giving back to the society, EVSB has been conducting the annual charity event for the past 27 years. Besides this, the company also has been giving sponsorships to Chinese organisations, schools and temples in Sabah, in support of their activities and programmes, all these years.
All these were in line with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) culture in support of the government’s aspiration of creating a ‘caring society’ in Malaysia, besides promoting the noble Chinese culture of ‘filial piety’ and respect for the elderly.
