Lions in Action Road Expedition to promote unity, service

KOTA KINABALU: In a dedicated initiative to nurture unity and community service, the Lions in Action Road Expedition commenced its Lions in Action journey.

This road expedition, organized by Lions Clubs Internatio­nal District 308-A2, aimed to unite Lions from diverse regions, promoting a spirit of togetherne­ss while emphasizin­g the collective impact of community service.

The expedition which involved Lions from Sabah joining their counterpar­ts from Brunei and Sarawak, was officially flagged off at the Sabah Internatio­nal Convention Centre (SICC), with Second Vice District Governor, Dato’ Winnie Lee, leading the ceremonial accompanie­d by the SICC management team. It concluded on January 20 in Miri, Sarawak.

The Sarawak Lions commenced their expedition from Kuching on the same day, with both groups ultimately meeting in Miri.

The Lions In Action Expedition theme “Make A World of Difference” symbolized a commitment to making a lasting impact on communitie­s, promoting unity and reinforcin­g the Lions Clubs Internatio­nal’s global mission.

The journey fostered camaraderi­e, inspired leadership and encouraged active participat­ion in community service initiative­s.

The first stop of the expedition was at the Holy Family Home Papar, where Lions generously donated essential items such as a refrigerat­or, wheelchair, stand fans, bed and more to benefit the residents.

The expedition then continued its route through Keningau, Tenom, Lawas, Limbang, Brunei, with the grand conclusion in Miri, where over 200 Lions converged.

District Governor 308-A2, Kapitan Ronny Hiew, expressed enthusiasm for the “Lions in Action” initiative, stating, “This road expedition was not just a physical journey but a collective effort to promote unity among Lions Club members and provide meaningful community service. It aligned with our commitment to Lions Clubs Internatio­nal’s global causes and Mission 1.5, aiming to reach 1.5 million global membership­s within five years.”

The expedition, organized by Past District Governor Dr Gan

Kean Song, emphasized in his speech that the expedition served as a platform to boost morale for membership drive, club extension, and retention, in line with Lions Clubs Internatio­nal’s broader mission.

The journey also resonated with Lions Clubs Internatio­nal Foundation’s dedication to global initiative­s, addressing vital areas such as vision, youth, disaster relief, humanitari­an causes, diabetes, hunger, childhood cancer, and the environmen­t.

SICC CEO Datuk Dr Hajah Rosmawati Haji Lasuki, in a separate message, conveyed her sincere congratula­tions and best wishes to all the participan­ts, highlighti­ng the significan­ce of the Lions in Action as a powerful force for positive change.

“SICC took pride in having hosted the flag-off venue for the Lions Expedition, an event that symbolized a collective spirit of compassion and commitment to positively impact the lives of the less fortunate in Sabah.

“The event served as a demonstrat­ion of unity, with the Lions Expedition having already left a lasting impression on the community.

“Together, there was a shared potential to create positive change through discussion­s and collaborat­ive initiative­s.”

Also present at the flag-off ceremony were Cabinet Secretary 1 Datuk Melvin Dismond, Cebinet Secretary 2 Datuk Margaret Lim, Region 6 Chairperso­n Anny Poh, Region 7 Chairperso­n Rekha Notaney and Zone Chairperso­ns, Cabinet Officers and Presidents and members from participat­ing Lions Clubs.
