PUTRAJAYA: Three international programmes that will be organised simultaneously by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) this October are capable of having a significant impact on the country’s fire and rescue industry, says Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
He said the programmes were The International Fire Chiefs’ Association Of Asia (IFCAA) General Conference; International Fire Conference And Exhibition Malaysia (IFCEM); and the Malaysia International Rescue Extrication Challenge (MIREC)-IFCAA Joint Drill 2024 to be held from Oct 22 to 24.
According to Nga, the programmes to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here will involve 1,800 participants from 30 countries.
“The government, through the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, welcomes JBPM’s efforts in high-impact programmes of this kind and has approved an allocation of RM1.5 million for its implementation and management,” he told reporters when met at the soft launch of the programmes at the JBPM Headquarters here yesterday, which was also attended by JBPM directorgeneral Datuk Nor Hisham Mohamad.
Nga said that in addition to the allocation from the government, the IFCAA as a co-organiser also contributed RM280,000.
With the theme, ‘Enhancing the Capacity’, he said the events focused on three main components, namely Fire Engineering and Safety, Fire and Rescue Technology and Operations and Disaster and Incident Management Mechanisms.
According to him, it is also the best platform for industry experts, professionals and academics in the field to share knowledge and best practices for the improvement of fire safety practices.
