Police arrest two in separate busts, seize drugs worth RM426,600
KUCHING: Police in Miri arrested two men and seized drugs worth RM426,600 in two operations carried out recently.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata the suspects, both aged 26, are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
“The first suspect was arrested behind a restaurant on Jan 19 and had in his possession two packets believed to be ecstasy mixture weighing 54.7g.
“He later led police to an apartment in Taman Piasau Indah where 12,873g of powder suspected to be ecstasy mixture, 1.7g of suspected ketamine, and 0.3g of suspected ecstasy pills were found,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters here yesterday.
The total value of the drugs seized was estimated at RM152,700, he added.
Mancha said the suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, had four prior criminal records – two for drugs and two for gambling-related offences.
“He used the apartment to process the drugs and package them in ‘Juice Master’ packets before distributing them around Miri.
“For this, he was paid RM1,000 a week,” he said, adding the suspect has been remanded until Jan 26 for further investigation.
On the second case, Mancha said the suspect was arrested at the arrival hall of Miri Airport around 9am on Jan 21.
“A suitcase he had with him was found to contain 8,300g of suspected methamphetamine worth an estimated RM273,900. We also seized a car belonging to him valued at RM11,800.
“The suspect was later found to be positive for methamphetamine, and he has one drug-related record.”
According to Mancha, the suspect’s modus operandi was to bring in drugs from Peninsular Malaysia via commercial flight, for which he would be paid RM8,000 by a syndicate.
“The suspect was instructed to bring the drugs to Sabah. All flights and accommodation were arranged by the syndicate,” he added.
