Elected representatives support school activities to develop education of children

-

KOTA KINABALU: The support of elected representatives in activities conducted by schools is part of the collective commitment and responsibility to develop the education of children.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, in saying this pointed out that through such involvement, the additional needs and assistance required by schools can be heard and appropriate actions taken.

Ewon disclosed that he personally, has utilised his elected representative’s allocation to address several issues faced by schools in his constituencies and if the issues involve significant allocations, they will be brought to the ministry level.

The Penampang member of parliament and Kadamaian assemblyman reiterated his intention and commitment to continue assisting schools in the two constituencies including providing special allocations for the ‘Program Pendidikan Khas Integrasi’ (PPKI).

“Last year, we allocated funds to improve school facilities such as toilets, but it was insufficient due to many school needs. As the representative of this area, I am responsible for facilitating or finding solutions to the issues faced by schools, whether using parliamentary allocations or elevating the need to the relevant ministry,” he said.

He said this after attending the appreciation ceremony for Year 6 and PPKI (Integrated Special Education Programme) at SK Luyang yesterday.

According to Ewon, the needs of students with special needs in several schools in the Penampang and Kadamaian areas will also be addressed accordingly.

“I am aware of the needs of primary and secondary schools in the Penampang and Kadamaian constituencies. My commitment is to provide some allocations to assist the special education teaching needs in these schools.

“Last year, I channeled allocations through agencies under my ministry to all primary and secondary schools in the areas I represent, namely Penampang and Kadamaian, but it was insufficient due to many schools,” he added.

During the event, Ewon presented graduation certificates to 95 Year 6 students and nine students from the Special Education Programme.
