Armizan: Upgrade of Kogopon Water Treatment Plant to be completed in three years

-

PAPAR: The upgrading work on Phase Two of the Kogopon Water Treatment Plant (LRA), situated on a 30-hectare land, is projected to be finalised within three years, said Papar Member of Parliament Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

He said the LRA project which involves an allocation of about RM365 million is aimed to double the water treatment capacity from 40 million litres per day (MLD) to 80 MLD.

Armizan who is also Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, said the clean water supply from the plant would not only be enjoyed by residents around Papar but also those living in Ulu Kimanis, South Putatan and parts of the Lok Kawi Camp areas.

“This project was initiated to tackle the persistent issue of prolonged water supply disruptions, which have persisted for over five years.

“Several areas in Papar are grappling with water supply challenges, with some enduring disruptions lasting nearly a week, and others subjected to daily water rationing,” he told reporters after a visit to the Kogopon LRA project site on Friday.

Armizan also emphasised the need for the contractors involved to prioritise the completion of the water treatment section within 18 months.

This step is crucial to channel the water supply into the existing pipeline network.

He said so far, the construction of the LRA has not faced major obstacles, as the necessary funding has been allocated and the design of the LRA upgrade has been in planning for a significant period.

“If any issues arise, I call on the contractors to communicate with me together with Kawang and Limbahau assemblymen in order for us to work together for the project to run smoothly,” he added.
