Senior Golfers Society of Sabah holds Masters Closed Golf Tournament

KOTA KINABALU: The Senior Golfers Society of Sabah (SGSS) successful­ly held its Second Masters Closed Golf Tournament at Sabah Golf & Country Club on Jan 3 with 114 members participat­ing.

This event was the culminatio­n of SGSS’ many golf tournament­s held throughout the year and was followed with a sumptuous lunch, prize presentati­on, Christmas carols and lucky draws.

SGSS president Datuk Claudius Roman JP thanked all the sponsors, especially the Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) which was represente­d by its secretary, Ronald Ubing.

In attendance were RSTC deputy chairman and SGSS deputy president Paul Nointien, SGSS vice presidents Victor Moosom, Haji Kamlun Haji Pasal, Captain Joseph Roman, secretary Harry Beatty, Lady Captain Datin Carlota Bazan, Vice-Captain Recardo Stanley Faurillo and Executive Committee members Alini Lansing, Joak Jolonius, and Ian Quek.

Also present were Kinabalu Golf Club (KGC) president Datuk Joannes Solidau, Penampang Countrysid­e Golf Club (PCGC) president Datuk Philip Lasimbang, District Officer Francis Chong, Assistant District Officer of Penampang Stanley Sikolis.

Roman presented awards for the Men’s Gross winner to Liau Hoe Peng (gross 84), Men’s Nett winner Datuk Joannes Solidau (nett 69), Ladies Nett winner Joseh Vung (nett 72), Ladies Gross winner Chung Nyuk Mee (gross 89), Men’s Super Senior Datuk Claudius Roman JP (nett 70), Men’s Super Super Senior Datuk Aziz Rashid Jainudin, Ladies Super Senior Shirley Poh (nett 65) and Ladies Super Super Senior Hajjah Rokia Daud (nett 76).

For novelty prizes, the sole Bull’s Eye winner was veteran Jani Joannes Majari, Longest Drive won by Liau Hoe Peng, and Nearest to the Line won by Haji Suhaidi Jahim.

For the newly introduced Best Player of the Year awards, the winners for Best Men (Nett) were won by Datuk Joannes Solidau (93.5 points), Best Men (Gross) was Hermes Amir (111 points), Best Ladies (Nett) was Malinjarah Nulantan (115 points), and Best Ladies (Gross) was Alini Lansing (117 points).

A cash token was also presented to Joannes for achieving a Hole in One feat at the recently held friendly golf tournament in Labuan between SGSS Sabah and SGSS Sarawak.
