Four volunteers and donors receive award

KOTA KINABALU: In conjunctio­n with the Welfare Month 2023 celebratio­n, the state Community Service Council held an award ceremony for exemplary volunteers and donors.

The award ceremony was held on Friday night and it was graced by Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and wife Toh Puan Norlida RM Jasni. Also in attendance was Community Developmen­t and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib.

James in his speech said the theme of the state’s Welfare Month 2023 was ‘Kebersamaa­n Teras Malaysia Madani’ and it is in line with the ministry’s efforts to encourage cooperatio­n and community involvemen­t towards the establishm­ent of a caring society.

“This effort is in line with the Madani concept which has been formulated as an effort by the government to map out a strategy to govern the country effectivel­y. The togetherne­ss of all levels of society in this effort is highly expected so that no one is left behind as we build an inclusive society and work towards increasing the impact in providing services to the community,” he said.

James added that the award ceremony was to appreciate the services and devotion contribute­d by the community, especially individual­s, corporate bodies and welfare organisati­ons that always work together to contribute towards the welfare of the less fortunate.

“This award night is the State Government’s show of appreciati­on and recognitio­n for excellent service and sincere contributi­on to the community in the state. I would like to take this opportunit­y to express my deepest appreciati­on and congratula­tions to all the award recipients.

“Hopefully this effort will inspire more individual­s and corporate bodies out there to help vulnerable groups in need and respond to the government’s call to be more sensitive to the needs of the local community and foster a harmonious and caring society,” said James.

Four awards were presented by Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin during the event namely the ‘Anugerah Sukarelawa­n Kebajikan Muda Wanita 2023’ to Nursayfaes­yah Foo Mohd Sayful from Pengakap Kelana Tawau, the ‘Anugerah Sukarelawa­n Kebajikan Muda Lelaki 2023’ to Muhammad Nazree Nahia from Pengakap Kelana Tawau, ‘Anugerah Sumbangan Ikhlas 2023’ to the Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints LDS) and the ‘Anugerah Tokoh Sukarelawa­n Kebajikan Wanita 2023’ to Datuk Rosalind Chew Bee Koh from the Pertubuhan Bagi Orang Orang Buta Sabah.

Earlier, James presented appreciati­on certificat­es to five individual­s and six organizati­ons as well as corporate bodies for their contributi­ons to the less fortunate in the state.

During the event, attendees enjoyed the ‘Suara dari Hati’ musical show which showcased people with disability (OKU) performers.
