MARA Professional College to be set up in Beaufort
KOTA KINABALU: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) will continue to strengthen the higher education sector by establishing a new MARA Professional College (KPM) campus in Beaufort, said Beaufort Member of Parliament Datuk Siti Aminah Aching.
According to Siti Aminah, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, the project’s implementation plan is at the final stages and the related works will be carried out soon.
She said the construction of the campus is part of the government’s initiative to continue to design and implement such programmes to strengthen the education sector in the field of skills, especially in areas outside the city.
“MARA will continue to empower access to quality education by developing more capable human capital who possess future-proof skills, starting from the secondary school level up to the higher education level.
“This new KPM will provide opportunities to the youth, especially in Beaufort and its surrounding areas, to continue studying in the field of skills, ” she said after a meeting with MARA Sabah director Dr Shahrizin Abdul Sarhadat at the MARA Sabah headquarters here recently.
Meanwhile, when attending a briefing and meeting with participants of the Madani Entrepreneur programme which comprised the youth, she hoped that school leavers and young people would choose the field of skills as an additional option to studying at higher institutes of education.
She said this is because they will have a bright future in the field of technology which has high marketability.
According to Siti Aminah, freelance students at the Samada Skills Training Institute from the Youth and Sports Skills Institute (ILKBS), Giat Mara Industrial Training Institute (ILP) and other skills institutes are now being sought after by various local companies and industry players.
“The skills they have acquired gives them high marketability even though they are not university graduates. This proves that innovation belongs to everyone and not just universities.
“I wish for more youth skills institutes, especially in Sabah, so that more young people can receive knowledge, especially in the field of skills, where these skills will give them space to find work or open their own businesses based on the skills they have acquired,” she said.
