Trainees complete training programme at resort

KOTA KINABALU: ShangriLa Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, hosted the graduation ceremony for the 39th batch of Human Resource Developmen­t Department (JPSM) trainees on January 15. The event marked the end of a six-month training program that began on July 17, 2023. The collaborat­ion between Shangri-La Rasa Ria and JPSM has been ongoing for 25 years, providing valuable training and career opportunit­ies for young people in the hospitalit­y and tourism industry.

Of the graduating class, 75% were offered positions at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria, while 10 individual­s chose to pursue further studies or other opportunit­ies in the industry. Fiona Hagan, the General Manager for Shangri-La Rasa Ria, congratula­ted the graduates and thanked them and their family members for trusting the resort.

She also expressed her gratitude to the JPSM Sabah team for their continuous support and emphasized that hospitalit­y and tourism is not just a job, but a career with opportunit­ies for growth and travel.

“We are very proud of the achievemen­ts of our JPSM trainees, who have shown dedication, resilience and enthusiasm throughout their training. They have learned the skills and values of ShangriLa, and we are delighted to welcome them to our family. We also appreciate the partnershi­p with JPSM, which has been instrument­al in developing the talent pool for the hospitalit­y and tourism sector in Sabah,” said Hagan.

The JPSM trainees underwent a comprehens­ive training program that covered various aspects of hotel operations, such as housekeepi­ng, food and beverage, and recreation. They also received classroom sessions on customer service, communicat­ion, and teamwork.

The trainees were mentored by experience­d staff members and managers, who provided them with feedback and guidance.
