116 test their shooting skills
KOTA KINABALU: One hundred and sixteen people took part in the Sabah Shooting Association’s (SSA) Shooting Skills Test Series (UKM) 1/2024 at the SSA Target Range, Lok Kawi, Jalan Penampang-Papar last weekend.
Competition director Jeson Yong said the participants were from enforcement agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Prisons Department, Immigration Department of Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Road Transport Department and Royal Malaysian Navy.
“This shooting test was also attended by private firearm license holders, security control companies, Carry and Use (C&U) license holders for SSA-owned firearms, as wel as the auxiliary police of Sutera Harbour and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB),” he said after the prize presentation ceremony on Sunday.
According to Jeson, who is also SSA’s assistant secretary, the purpose of this UKM is to test the skills of each participant in handling firearms safely, even when required to shoot in various conditions, obstacles and positions.
“Each participant will be tested with three stages (short, medium and long), and they are required to accurately shoot at designated targets while moving swiftly to achieve the best score in this UKM,” he added.
Calson Cassey Alipin, representing the Immigration Department of Malaysia, emerged as the champion of the UKM Series 1/2024, followed by SSA shooter Jeson himself while Clarence Wee, representing the Royal Malaysian Navy, was in third place.
A “Shoot-off” event was also held for both men and women, which was won by Jeson, followed by Calson and a shooter representing the General Operations Force (PGA) of Sabah Brigade, Alfie Shafizan Liew Osman Abdullah.
