116 test their shooting skills

KOTA KINABALU: One hundred and sixteen people took part in the Sabah Shooting Associatio­n’s (SSA) Shooting Skills Test Series (UKM) 1/2024 at the SSA Target Range, Lok Kawi, Jalan Penampang-Papar last weekend.

Competitio­n director Jeson Yong said the participan­ts were from enforcemen­t agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Prisons Department, Immigratio­n Department of Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcemen­t Agency, Road Transport Department and Royal Malaysian Navy.

“This shooting test was also attended by private firearm license holders, security control companies, Carry and Use (C&U) license holders for SSA-owned firearms, as wel as the auxiliary police of Sutera Harbour and Sabah Electricit­y Sdn Bhd (SESB),” he said after the prize presentati­on ceremony on Sunday.

According to Jeson, who is also SSA’s assistant secretary, the purpose of this UKM is to test the skills of each participan­t in handling firearms safely, even when required to shoot in various conditions, obstacles and positions.

“Each participan­t will be tested with three stages (short, medium and long), and they are required to accurately shoot at designated targets while moving swiftly to achieve the best score in this UKM,” he added.

Calson Cassey Alipin, representi­ng the Immigratio­n Department of Malaysia, emerged as the champion of the UKM Series 1/2024, followed by SSA shooter Jeson himself while Clarence Wee, representi­ng the Royal Malaysian Navy, was in third place.

A “Shoot-off” event was also held for both men and women, which was won by Jeson, followed by Calson and a shooter representi­ng the General Operations Force (PGA) of Sabah Brigade, Alfie Shafizan Liew Osman Abdullah.
