‘Sabah tourism community resilent during pandemic’
KOTA KINABALU: The Covid19 pandemic has presented obstacles, but it has also highlighted the resilience of the tourism community in Sabah.
“As the economy is rapidly recovering, I must say, one key contributor to this success has been the tireless effort of members of Malaysia Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA). I understand that through their innovative strategies and unwavering commitment, MCTA has played a pivotal role in bringing immense economic growth to Sabah,” said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.
MCTA’s dedication to providing quality services and promoting Sabah as a toptier tourist destination has not only attracted a growing number of visitors but has also positioned Sabah prominently on the global tourism map, she said.
“From my observation, MCTA’s actions and initiatives have not only benefited the tourism sector but have also had a positive ripple effect on the overall economic development of Sabah.
“Local businesses, from hospitality to traditional crafts, have flourished, creating employment opportunities and contributing to the prosperity of our communities,” she said at MCTA’s Chinese new year dinner here on Monday night.
Liew added that Sabah remains committed to providing a safe, enriching and memorable stay for every visitor.
“I am aware that tourism stakeholders, including MTCA, are exploring new avenues for sustainable growth, embracing digital technologies, and strengthening collaborations to effectively position Sabah as a top choice for travellers seeking authentic and meaningful experiences in The Land Below The Wind,” she said.
Her speech was delivered by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Josie Lai.
