Outdoor activities help to build students’ leadership — Joachim

-

RANAU: Activities outside the formal curriculum are important in shaping leadership, creativity, and the spirit of cooperation among students, said Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

Speaking at the Co-Curriculum Excellence Appreciation Ceremony and Student Affairs Service of SMK Mat Salleh 2023, Joachim said outdoor activities can also instill tolerance, togetherness and bonds of unity among the students.

“With unity we are able to achieve greater success.

“We want to form students who appreciate talent and art regardless of race, as well as foster a responsible attitude towards the health of the body and mind through healthy activities.

“At the same time, this kind of event is to develop the formation of communication skills, such as the skills to interact with the community.

“A good interaction helps students gain extensive experience and knowledge, allowing them to become skilled and dedicated individuals,” said the Kundasang assemblyman.

He also congratulated the teachers and parents who have shown wholehearted dedication in training and guiding the students.

He said co-curricular training is usually carried out after school hours and therefore, without the support and guidance of teachers, it is certain that the students involved will find it difficult to reach the level they have reached.

“Every day is a new opportunity for you to be better than before. Cultivate the spirit to progress, because success begins with determination and consistent effort. Whoever tries will succeed,” he said to the students present.
