Over 200 take part in Spirit of 85, 10km Fun Run

KOTA KINABALU: Over 200 runners especially extreme sports enthusiast­s took part in the Spirit of 85, 10km Fun Run that started and ended at the Hongkod Koisan KDCA in Penampang near here on Sunday.

KDCA president, Huguon Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan who flagged off the participan­ts, opined that the Run should be made into an annual event.

Pairin went on to present the prizes to the fastest finishers in the event that featured the men’s and women’s open as well as men and women veteran.

Wincentber­t Latius was the fastest finisher in the men’s open followed by Romeo Gomboh and Mohammad Ahsan.

In the fourth to tenth placings were Aznil Faez, Muhammad Dzulkifli, Azlan Kuste, Arikchely Atiul, Tommy Dois, Simon Gelasius and Zaid Suhaipin.

The top 10 runners in the women’s open in order are Lavinia Kong, Fong En Chyi, Natahsya Soon, Ho Sue Lynn, Shemiera Arthur, Sinapolin Sarawi, Lusia Jail, Chew Hui Chin, Ella Bon and Vera Haris.

Ruston Masri was the fastest men veteran followed by Mohd Zulkarnain Masuyuk and Guianus Salagan.

Yusof Tungkob, Jeffry Ahmad, Druce Dahi, Carey Liew, Madusun Romundos, Rudy Johari and Raichin Sungkit completed the top 10.

As for the women’s veteran category, Jamie Fu emerged top with Tammy Chew and Kona Liai in second and third placings respective­ly.

The fourth to tenth placed runners were Mimie Yong, Epang Sarawi, Annie Linus, Vilin @ Imelda Ulut, Sanisah Jingkim, Fazizah Hassan and Fiona Danny.

Steve Johnny Mositun, the president of Sabah and Labuan Extreme Sports Fan Club, expressed gratitude to Parti Bersatu Sabah Youth Movement Exco for being the joint organiser of the event.

Steve said the event was like a platform for the youth to learn to work in a team in order to make a programme a success.

“We did not expect to receive over 200 entries and to have Sabah state athletes among the participan­ts only made the event competitiv­e despite it being only a fun run.

“It showed sports unite the people,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Steve went on to say that there were also lucky draw prizes for the participan­ts as well as exhibition by the main sponsor KKIP Sdn Bhd on the day.

Steve thanked KKIP Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Lawrence G. Kimkuan and other contributo­rs for the success of the event namely Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam who is also KDCA deputy president, Tamparuli Sticker, F&N, Penampang Disitrict Police headquarte­rs, Penampang District Council, Sabah Athletic Associatio­n and KDCA.

Also contributi­ng to the event were strategic partners Casero Events and SSBS Communicat­ion Team.

Meanwhile, organising chairman Shahrun Nizam expressed appreciati­on to the organising club for the wellorgani­sed event.

He said the success of the inaugural event proved its potential to be made a yearly programme.

Also present at the closing were Perkasa Reality Sdn Bhd chairman cum PBS Youth Exco chief Christophe­r Mandut, Louis Lai and the youth exco members.
