Ensure eateries open for tourists during CNY — LDP

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment Sabah has been urged to ensure Sabah is ready for the influx of Chinese tourists during Chinese New Year (LDP) holidays.

Liberal Democratic Party Vice President David Ong said the ministry is making good efforts to prepare for an expected increase in tourists from China.

“We commend the proactive steps taken by the ministry to boost flight capacity and ensure adequate hotel rooms are on hand to meet the higher demand. By working closely with airlines, hotels, and other tourism partners, they are getting Sabah ready to welcome more visitors after Covid-19 disruptions.

“However, we would suggest the ministry also focus on engaging food and beverage stakeholders such as coffee shop and restaurant associations. Many eateries may be closed during the festive period. Ensuring adequate dining options are available will be important to serve the arrival, or it could hamper tourism recovery efforts,” said Ong in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, many tourists from China play a big role in supporting Sabah’s tourism indutry. So, attracting more Chinese tourists will be crucial for reviving this important sector for the State’s economy post-pandemic.

Ong added the tourism industry in the Chinese market represents a big opportunity that could stimulate growth in Sabah’s tourism sector.

“We are hopeful the efforts underway will translate to tangible outcomes. Sabah has much to offer visitors, thanks to its incredible nature, diverse cultures and warm hospitality. By making sure Chinese tourists have pleasant and quality experiences, more of them would be motivated to come back after having a great time. This can help Sabah become popular again as the top place for Chinese travellers who want to explore Borneo’s rich cultural and natural wonders,” he said.
