Tongod community leaders warned to carry out duties
KOTA KINABALU: Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah has issued a warning to community leaders in Tongod, ‘carry out your responsibility or face the consequences of your action.’
He said community leaders found to have shirked from their duties and are insincere in carrying out their responsibilities will face actions that include suspension and dismissal from the posts. Masiung said that there would be no compromise for the leaders found to have abused their positions for personal gains.
“Similarly, government officers and staff who fail to cooperate with the public during transactions should face disciplinary actions. Even though there haven’t been reports of government officers frequently being absent from the office without leave, this warning should be heeded,” he said in his speech at the Tongod District Council Hall two days ago.
Masiung stated that drastic measures taken against leaders and civil servants are necessary to improve governance at all levels.
According to Masiung, 2024 should serve as a platform for all public servants, including Tongod District Council members, to achieve their Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
He also reminded civil servants not to engage in any form of corruption, adding that there will not be any compromise for community leaders or government officials proven to be involved.
During the event, a farewell ceremony was held for Tongod Assistant District Officer Cleophas John Gordon, who will start new duties in the Chief Minister’s Department. Cleophas is succeeded by Ronley Saringan who reported for duty in early January.
Tongod District Officer Nelson Domil Oluk was among the 250 government officers and community leaders present at the event.
