Gagasan Rakyat to transform into party for young people

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Youth division is focusing on transforming the party into a platform for young people in the state.

Its Api-Api chief, Syahrul Safwan Najwan Faisyal, said his side is actively launching various initiatives based on community programs.

“We will focus on the community here (Api-Api), and we will also focus on attracting the interest of young people in this area.

“Therefore, we will be launching a number of upcoming programmes including Town Hall sessions with traders in this area so that we can find the underlying issues to be brought to the attention of the relevant ministries and agencies,” he said during a walkabout in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration organised by Gagasan Rakyat Youth ApiApi division here on Sunday.

Safwan, who is also the programme’s organising chairperson, said among the issues that have been identified in the Api-Api area is the unemployment rate among the youth, which is very high not only in that area but almost all of Sabah.

Meanwhile, commenting on the programme, Gagasan Rakyat Api-Api division chief Datuk Faisyal Datuk Yusof Hamdain Diego said that the public’s acceptance of the programme and the party in Api-Api was very encouraging.

“There were a lot of young people, and we see that this party is a party for all and not for one race only.

“I was quite surprised and at the same time happy to see that this programme was well received, and I heard many members of the public asking about the party membership form. So that is a good sign for the party,” he said when met.

At the programme, 1,200 souvenir bags and calendars were distributed to people around Gaya Street.

Also present were Gagasan Rakyat Api-Api Women chief Salmi Sarinoh and Beliawanis chief Emmie Martin Idang.
