Tamu desa project in rural areas of Sabah, Sarawak

KOTA KINABALU: The implementa­tion initiative of the tamu desa project by the Entreprene­ur Developmen­t and Cooperativ­es Ministry this year, aims to provide infrastruc­ture facilities to small entreprene­urs in rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak.

According to its minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick, the Prime Minister has agreed and announced an allocation of RM20 million in the 2024 Budget for the Entreprene­ur Developmen­t and Cooperativ­es Ministry to implement the initiative.

“Last year, I proposed that an allocation to build stalls for small entreprene­urs and upgrade tamu desa facilities in Sabah and Sarawak be included in the 2024 Budget. The Prime Minister agreed and provided an allocation of RM20 million for this initiative starting this year.

“Furthermor­e, during the national level ‘Hari Penjaja dan Peniaga Kecil’ celebratio­n in Penampang last month, the Prime Minister announced that my ministry and I were given the mandate to implement this initiative. I am grateful to the Prime Minister for this mandate and will ensure that this allocation helps build infrastruc­ture facilities such as stalls and tamu desa for small entreprene­urs in rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

Ewon said this when officiatin­g the Sipitang district level ‘Program Membudayak­an Masyarakat Koperasi’ yesterday.

In conjunctio­n with the program, Ewon also launched the Koperasi Pusat Komuniti Lundayeh Sabah Berhad and subsequent­ly inspected the proposed site for the tamu desa market to be developed by the cooperativ­e.

Ewon then approved an allocation of RM100,000 for the constructi­on of the tamu desa market stalls.

Also present at the program were Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah, Sindumin State Legislativ­e Assembly member Datuk Dr Yusof Yaacob, Chief Executive Officer of SKM, Rusli Jaafar, and Koperasi Pusat Komuniti Lundayeh Sabah Berhad chairman Datuk Pangiran Lalung.
