PBS wants to take back Bandau seat

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Bandau wants the Bandau State seat to be returned to the party in the coming state election.

This is because PBS president ‘loaned’ the seat to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the 16th state election, said PBS Bandau youth chief Junid Gunsalam.

“PBS Bandau in a meeting on Friday unanimously decided to reclaim the Bandau state seat that was loaned by PBS president to Bersatu in the previous state election,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by 15 members of the PBS Bandau and chaired by deputy division chief Julita Dalinsi.

Junid who is also the PBS Youth deputy chief, said they made this decision because they want the Bandau seat to be contested by a GRS candidate from PBS in the upcoming state election.

“PBS wants to continue the tradition of the party since 1985.

The Bandau state seat, formerly known as the N.6 Langkon, is a traditional PBS seat since 1985.

In 1999, the Langkon seat was abolished and later re-established in 2020 for the 16th state election and named Bandau.

“The PBS Bandau has 107 branches with a total of 4,900 members across the Bandau constituency,” he said.

Junid added that PBS Bandau has several new and potential leaders who could be fielded and have the potential to win as PBS/ GRS candidates in the upcoming state election.

“The Bandau seat was held by Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, who won as a Bersatu/PN party candidate in 16th state election with a majority of 3,363 votes.

He later left Bersatu and joined Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (PKDM).

He subsequently became a candidate for the Kota Marudu parliament seat in the recent general election and won under the PKDM ticket,” he said.
