University students clean up Tanjung Lipat Beach

-

KOTA KINABALU: A group of university student volunteers took the lead in marine ecosystem conservation at Tanjung Lipat Beach here.

On February 5, around 50 ASEZ members carried out the ASEZ Blue Carbon (ABC) Movement at Tanjung Lipat Beach.

Around 60 garbage bags weighing over 600kg were collected.

ASEZ, the University Student Volunteer Group of the World Mission Society Church of God

conducted the ABC Movement to keep marine ecosystems such as beaches and rivers clean and to raise public awareness about the importance of blue carbon.

Blue carbon is the carbon absorbed and stored in coastal and marine ecosystems, attracting attention as a solution to address global warming that is accelerating. ASEZ is actively carrying out these activities not only in Malaysia but also in many other countries, including the United States, the Republic of Korea, India, Argentina, Singapore, the Philippines, South Africa and Kenya.

This is the second time ASEZ has conducted the ABC Movement here since it was held in August last year.

Among ASEZ volunteers there were some Korean university students who visited Malaysia during their semester break. One of them named Kim Gyuri shared how she felt during this cleanup activity, “I was surprised to see that the beach, which I thought was clean, was covered with a lot of trash. There were a lot of plastics on the sand at the seashore. When I picked them up, there were more plastics hidden underneath. I realized again that it is not just one person’s effort, but many people around the world especially university students should participate in the activities of ASEZ to make contribution to prevent global warming, which is accelerating due to this phenomenon.”

Mikcianih, a student from Cyberjaya College said, “This cleaning campaign made me realized that the effort to keep the environment clean starts from me, even though I am just a college student. As the member of ASEZ, I’m very proud to be able to participate in this campaign and I will keep doing it with Mother’s heart.”

ASEZ stands for “Save the Earth from A to Z,” which means, “Save the earth from the beginning to the end.” ASEZ is an international volunteer organization consisting of university students from the Church of God all over the world. They have also provided domestic support and assistance through various activities.
