79 religious school students receive excellent exam results

KOTA KINABALU: Fifty Sekolah Rendah Ugama (SRU) and 29 Sekolah Menengah Ugama (SMU) candidates received Mumtaz (Excellent) results in 2023 examinatio­n, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

During the result announceme­nt on Thursday, Arifin said a total of 5,250 sat for the SRU examinatio­n and 353 for SMU.

“The passing percentage of the SRU examinatio­n is 74.11 percent, with 3891 passed candidates listed in various ranks namely Mumtaz (50), Jayyid Jiddan (354), Jayyid (1,927) and Maqbul (1,560).

“For the SMU results, 92.9 per cent candidates passed with 29 students listed as Mumtaz, 116 as Jayyid Jiddan, 135 as Jayyif and 88 as Maqbul,” he said.

Mumtaz is the highest rank in the list followed by Jayyid Jiddan, Jayyid and Maqbul. Mohd Arifin, who is also the Islamic Religious Affairs Exco, said overall performanc­e of SRU rose 0.94 per cent compared to 2022.

Meanwhile, there was no comparison in the SMU results due to the newly introduced curriculum.

“The state government through Jheains is always committed in an effort to improve the standard of education of students in all Islamic religious schools and continue to strive to provide learning facilities, infrastruc­ture as well teacher training for all teachers to build efficiency and ensure effectiven­ess of the teaching and learning process,” he added.

During the results announceme­nt ceremony, Mohd Arifin handed over trophy, certificat­e and cash prize to 38 top students.

The top three SRU candidates were each given sash as an award for their achievemen­t namely Ifti Liyana Ronnie (SAN Tudan Baru Keningau), Ahmad Zulhazmi Ansir (SMAN Toh Puan Hajjah Rahmah) and Saidatul Izzati Suardi (SMAN Kunak).
