Sabah Commissioners for Oaths call on TYT

-

KOTA KINABALU: A delegation from the Sabah Commissioner for Oaths Malaysia (PJS) paid a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar Mahiruddin, on Jan 24.

The purpose of the courtesy call was to strengthen the relationship with the Sabah State Government and PJS Sabah as well as to highlight the functions and role of PJS in the development of the social, public, and private sectors in the state.

Juhar, who was once a Commissioner for Oaths, advised PJS to do their job diligently and ensure the integrity of the Commissioner for Oath Office is never compromised.

The delegation was led by Chung Kee Shyong @ Dino, Ambrose Obon, Beto Patrick, Suwah Buleh @ Bulleh, Jefrison Marabin and Mohd Amirol Hamid.

A Commissioner for Oaths is an officer appointed by the Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Malaysia to help Malaysians, especially those from Sabah who are undocumented due to ignorance, mostly from the interior of Sabah, and at the same time to help in ensuring that only genuine Malaysians get the proper identification documents.

PJS also provides advice to parents of undocumented children on the procedures for getting the documents for their children.

Undocumented children are not allowed schooling. In order for them to be able to at least study up to the primary level, they require a statutory declaration.

The other responsibilities of PJS include the attestation and affirmation of a statutory declaration for job, scholarship, affidavit and many more.

PJS services are also required in the attestation and affirmation of Statutory Declaration for government projects.

PJS services are also required for the affirmation of documents from immigrants needed by their embassies in order for them to obtain the necessary travel documents to regularise their stay in Sabah.

"As PJS, we must personally attend to all who require our services, verify the identity of the person making the declarations or documents, and ensure the person understands the content of the declarations or documents before we affirm or attest the documents.

"In short PJS plays a vital support role in the development of the social, public, and private sectors for the state, in line with the state slogan 'Sabah Maju Jaya'," said Chung.
