Sabah Sports Board appoints new directors

kOTA KINABALU: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin has urged the newly appointed Sabah Sports Board (SSB) directors to adopt and carry out their responsibi­lities based on the functions outlined in its enactment.

Ellron made the remark during the swearing-in ceremony and presentati­on of appointmen­t letters to the board members in Likas near here yesterday.

Masly Ansilau @ Masly Wahip is new SSB chairman for 20242027 term, taking over from Osman Aganduk whose tenure has ended.

Janih Bangud has been named as the deputy director and the rest of the board members are Ramjit Nairulal, Thong Yong Hung, Willy Frous Darinsok, Razali Mohd Ali, associate professor Dr D Maryama Ag Daud, Ruslie Amat, Gobenath A/ L Jothi Veeramani, Shah Fareed Awang Sham and Muhd Arziz Afizy Rumsani.

“We should be more profession­al when carrying out duties or responsibi­lities through discussion with the management according to the enactment that has been set.

“There is a reason why I have appointed those with experience and strong sports background and in the youth and academics brackets ... we want to a create a team that focuses on the interests of the Sabah Sports Board,” he said.

Ellron went on to reveal that they are planning to add several sports facilities that could help improve performanc­e and develop sports in the state.

He said all must work hard in the effort to maximise sports facilties for the people thus contribute to the Federal

Ministry of Youth and Sports’s vision to make Malaysia a sporting nation.

“As such it will indirectly encourage all Malaysians to be actively involved in sports activities which in turn create a healthy society that is free from chronic diseases.

“This indirectly also reduces the cost of disease treatment and that is one of our main roles apart from managing and administer­ing sports facilities.

“I hope that the new Board of Directors with a combinatio­n of young people, academics and those with experience in the field of sports will succeed in providing the best service to the people of Sabah,” he said.

Also present the ceremony were state Youth and Sports Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Mansur Asun, Sabah Sports Council director Mohd Asneh Mohd Noor and SSB general manager Terrence Pudin.
