KOTA KINABALU: Three secondary schools in Kadamaian received calculators that were donated by Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) through the efforts of State Assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick.

The schools are SMK Narinang, SMK Tambulion and SMK Pekan II, and the calculators will be distributed to B40 group students in each school. The symbolic presentation of the donation was made by Ewon who is also Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister at the Kadamaian assemblyman’s service centre on Thursday.

Representative of SMK Pekan II’s principal, Androw Celyron, expressed gratitude to Ewon for the donation of 100 calculators for the use of students in their school.

“This is crucial for students, especially for use in the Mathematics subject. Most B40 students cannot afford to purchase calculators, and with the YBR donation through the efforts of Datuk Ewon, it greatly assists students during Mathematics classes. I hope that this contribution can help them improve their mastery of the Mathematics subject,” he said, adding the school also received various other contributions from Ewon. The principal of SMK Narinang, Soo Yong Huat, also expressed appreciation to Ewon for the calculators.

“We received a total of 150 calculators that will be used by students, especially Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates. It provides significant benefits to students, particularly SPM candidates. Previously, Datuk Ewon has also made many contributions for the improvement of co-curricular performance at SMK Narinang.

“Last year, he made a donation through YBR specifically for the implementation of the Monotos lrogram, which is additional classes held from July to January. In this program, we provide focused additional guidance classes, and the RM20,000 contribution was used for the lunch expenses of all students attending the additional classes.

“Furthermore, last year, SMK Narinang also received contributions from Datuk Ewon, specifically to support the improvement of academic performance, curriculum and the character of students. Thank you for the continued effort in helping schools in Kadamaian,” he said.

The principal of SMK Tambulion, Nasdin Pumpunga, stressed that the donation is meaningful to the school’s students especially the B40 and the hardcore poor, to facilitate them in learning Mathematics.

“Previously, we also received contributions, such as the provision of modules for Form 5 students who are currently taking the SPM examination. In addition, we will also receive a school cooperative van through the efforts of Datuk Ewon. On behalf of the school and parents, I express my heartfelt thanks for the initiative and hard work of Datuk Ewon in assisting all schools in Kadamaian,” he said.
